1,000 Police Officers to Miss March Salaries

Close to 1,000 police officers are set to miss their March salaries following a failure to update their credentials on the newly constituted human resource management system.

The officers, whose majority were juniors, had reportedly been visiting Jogoo House and Vigilance House to present their information in an effort to get their money disbursed.

According to a report compiled by People Daily, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet formulated the report in order to weed out ghost workers.

It was established the government lost millions of shillings in salaries especially after it was discovered that some officers were still on the payroll months after they left the service.

“A good number of officers, almost 1,000, have missed their March salary since the report shows the total service workforce is 101,288 whereas some were not captured,” a senior officer told People Daily.

The report presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta last week by Matiang'i listed some 101,288 police officers who were qualified to get the payment.

The automation of the human resource management system took place between February 7 to March 11.

Some of the information entered in the updated biometric during the exercise included certificate of appointment, national identity card details, KRA PIN, family background, academic qualifications, rank, and service history.

Reports, however, emerged that the report might not have been entirely accurate.

For instance, some officers who work in hardship areas were not receiving allowances while others earned more allowances than they deserved.
