AG Kihara Donates TV Set to Hindi Prison Inmates in Lamu County

Attorney General Paul Kihara on Friday donated a TV set to prisoners of Hindi Prison in response to a request they had made.

The inmates had requested for the media device so as to keep informed and entertained during their free time, a request the AG obliged to.

This visit to the prison was part of the Lamu Service Week organised by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

As part of a multi-agency team comprising of state and non-state actors, AG Kihara took up public concerns raised during the Community Dialogue at Mpeketoni.

The forums were set to provide residents a platform to discuss with relevant national government agencies for amicable solutions.

Together with DPP Noordin Haji, the AG opened the  Lamu social Justice Centre which will help enhance access to justice in addition to receiving and acting on human rights issues.

On his part, DPP promised to work with the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti in investigating Lamu county lands office and the National Land Commission following rampant complaints relating to land issues from the public.

Earlier on Thursday, AG Kihara hosted the Chair of the Taskforce on policy on intersex persons, Karanja Kabage, who made submissions on the status of intersex persons in Kenya.

Speaking of their experiences with the AG, Karanja stated, "Many children are abandoned by their parents at birth and rejected by the societies."

On her part, KNCHR Commissioner Wakonyo Waruhiu stated, "We need to recognise and have social security numbers for all intersex persons to assist with security matters in the country. They are prone to engage in criminal activities as a means to survive."
