President Uhuru's Uncle Who Was Pope's Private Secretary

Although Kenya's First President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta did not attend church service in his 15 years as Head of State, his family was very religious.

They particularly subscribed to the Catholic faith with influence from Mama Ngina's brother George Muhoho

He was a Catholic priest and studied Canon Law until 1968 at the Collegio San Pietro in Rome.

The Standard in 2016, reported that at one time Muhoho served as the Private Secretary of Pope Paul IV and became the first black diplomat to the Vatican.

Muhoho also served as the papal envoy to Brussels, Luxembourg, Council of Europe and the then North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

He is a skilled linguist who can fluently speak Latin, Spanish, Italian, French and German in addition to English, Kikuyu and Swahili.

During his early education years, it is reported that he skipped five classes in two years at Gatitu Primary School because of his innate intelligence.

After many years of service in the church, he quit, claiming "I decided my life was not in the priesthood." and in 1976, he married lawyer Jean Njeri Koinange.

Former President Daniel Moi would later appoint Muhoho in his Cabinet in charge of Education, Tourism and ICT at different instances.

In 2004, he was appointed by Former President Mwai Kibaki as Managing Director of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) but has since left the organisation.
