Former Garsen MP, Danson Mungatana, is in mourning following the death of his first wife, Violet Mungatana.
She is reported to have passed away while undergoing dialysis at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi.
Reports shared by Citizen revealed that she had been admitted at the hospital located along Ngong road over the last month for treatment.
She was known to most of her close friends and family as Mama Elsie, and leaves behind three children.
Deputy President (DP) William Ruto sent out condolences to the family of the bereaved, describing the late Violet as a generous individual.
“Condolences to family and friends of former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana following the death of his wife, Violet Mungatana. She was a devoted family woman; kind and welcoming, who stood out for her generosity and warm heart. Rest In Peace,” stated Ruto’s tweet.
Mungatana, who is a renowned lawyer, was first elected to Parliament as MP for Garsen Constituency in 2002 and 2007 (on a Narc-Kenya ticket) as one of the four directly elected MPs.
In 2013, Mungatana took part in the Tana River County Gubernatorial race but lost to Hussein Dado of the Wiper Democratic Movement.
Mr Mungatana is currently married to K24 news anchor, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, with whom they have four children.
