Inspector General of Police (IG) nominee - Hillary Mutyambai, disclosed his total networth during his vetting by a joint committee of the National Assembly and Senate on Thursday.
“My networth currently stands at Ksh30 million,” the IG nominee revealed.
His total networth was the lowest among recently vetted nominees such as Dr George Magoha (CS Education) and Twalib Mbarak (EACC boss) who were both well over the Ksh100 million mark.
The panel was headed by Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange and Garissa Senator, Yusuf Haji.
He went on to reveal that he only owned one house located in Masii, Machakos County where he practices subsistence farming.
Mr Mutyambai insisted that he did not own any property in Nairobi or any other town except his rural home.
The IG nominee also declared that he would root out corrupt officers by taking up the ‘all officers should be treated equally’ mantra.
"I will treat every officer as a clean officer. I will engage all of them to agree on the mode of our operation. From there, I will start monitoring them to identify the corrupt officers," he divulged.
When questioned on unlawful killings reportedly carried out by police officers, he affirmed that the committee's mandated to prosecute such rogue officers would be empowered and given a free hand.
"Each officer will be held liable for their actions. We will take actions according to the law. I will work closely with IPOA, DPP to bring sanity in the service," he asserted.
During his extensive vetting process, Mr Mutyambai revealed that he was part of the security team that was working tirelessly behind the scenes following the dusit D2 terror attack, adding that further details were classified as privileged information which he could not reveal.
The University of Nairobi degree holder joined the police force as a Constable back in 1991.
The new IG is set to assume office hardly three months after police officers were ordered to vacate the government-leased houses from January this year and find their own accommodation.
