Boda Boda Operator Busted With 200 Explosives

An Eldoret Court, on Friday, detained a boda boda operator and his client after they were found in possession of bomb-making material.

The two, Jim Odhiambo and Kennedy Omondi, were on Wednesday arrested by officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) after they were found with 200 explosives.

In her ruling, Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Menya ordered that they be detained at Eldoret West Police Station in order to allow police complete investigations.

Appearing before the court, the prosecutor requested for more time since the case had technicalities and could not be completed on time.

He further argued that when released, the two posed a threat to the national security.

He also revealed that as part of the investigations, he intended to go to Migori where the consignment allegedly originated from and promised to make more arrests.

“Due to the required comprehensive detailed examination of the said materials and analysis of their mobile data at ATPU ICT lab in Nairobi, I ask for 10 days to complete investigations.

"I also need to travel to Migori County where the consignment is suspected to have originated from with a view of arresting more suspects linked to these explosives,” stated the officer.

The suspects never objected to any of the demands by the prosecutor.

The case is set for mention on April 5, 2019.
