KU Students Teargassed for Chanting Bobi Wine During Museveni’s Lecture

Kenyatta University students were on Friday teargassed by the police for allegedly protesting against President Yoweri Museveni during his lecture at the main campus on Thika-Nairobi highway.

At first, the students were reportedly chanting "haki yetu" (our right) for being  locked out of the amphitheatre where Museveni was giving his lecture.

In a video making rounds on social media, the students were also seen yelling that the Ugandan president should respect human rights and step down.

It is reported that the students numbering tens chanted songs in praise of Uganda’s Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine.

The MP who is also a celebrated musician has been vocal against the 74-year-old president’s leadership and has been mulling running for president.

The chants continued throughout Museveni's address until when he was done giving his lecture.

Earlier in the day, controversial activist Boniface Mwangi asked the students to protest the Ugandan president's lecture.

"A dictator who has ruled Uganda for 33 years, Museveni will give a lecture at Kenyatta University. Exams have been canceled at Kenyatta University to allow a murderous dictator a platform.

"I hope comrades will give him trouble. Disrupt! Free Stella Nyanzi!," the blogger posted.

In 2018, Bobi Wine held demonstrations which saw him badly beaten up the police.
