Charity Ngilu Arm-Twists President Uhuru Into Giving Women Lucrative Tender

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu is nothing short of a shrewd schemer after she successfully arm-twisted President Uhuru Kenyatta into awarding lucrative tender to women from her county.

During her speech at the unveiling of the new Huduma Namba registration in Machakos County, Ngilu tactifully attacked the president for neglecting the two thirds gender rule all together.

She further vowed women would soon after take matters into their own hands and start ejecting non-performing male leaders from the seats and instilling one of their own.

"Your Excellency, we have been asking for a long time about the two third gender (rule)... I have told women to stop asking, you will not give us. We must come and remove you from those seats.

"In another meeting, I said that we women of Kenya must come together and form a very strong women's movement." Ngilu told Uhuru who was in attendance.

Uhuru, after acknowledging that women were a strong arm of the society that looks after everyone, revealed that he respected what the governor was doing for women and even awarded them a tender to make all assistant chief's uniforms.

According to Uhuru, the move was aimed at empowering the women financially so they could help themselves.

"Lakini Charity sasa we unasema mimi napinga mimi sipingi...Lakini, it will not be a bad thing to have hiyo amesema because a woman looks after more than herself (But Charity, you indicated that I object (2/3 gender rule) though I don't... It will not be a bad thing to have what you have said because a woman looks after more than herself).

"Kwa sababu umeniambia na ninafurahia ile unafanya huko Kitui, na hiyo mambo ya kuhakikisha groups za kina mama are able to help themselves. Unajua nilisema uniform ya serikali hatutakuwa tunaimport tena kwa hivo nikisema Mama Ngilu atengenezee assistant chief uniform ni mbaya...so hiyo tumemaliza." answered Uhuru.

(Because you have told me, and I am happy with what you have done in Kitui by empowering women groups. You know I said we will not import Police uniform so if I say Ngilu will produce assistant chief's uniform, is it wrong? that is done.)

Just like that, Ngilu had won a lucrative tender for the women groups in her county.
