Samburu Governor Released on Ksh100 Million Bail

Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal Kasaine who was arrested on Tuesday morning has been released.

According to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, the governor was released on a Ksh 150 million bond with a surety of similar amount or Ksh100 million cash bail.

His arrest came after DPP Noordin Haji ordered his prosecution, including his deputy Julius Leseeto and 11 sitting, ex-chief officers over a Ksh84 million fuel scam.

The 13 suspects who were not present in court are expected to take a plea on April 4.

According to the DPP, the investigations had established that the governor was trading with the county government through Oryx Service Station for the supply of fuel since the 27th March 2013 to date.

"The governor failed and/or neglected to disclose his interest in the said service station. It is clear that the governor engaged in conduct that is expressly prohibited in law and in clear violation of the constitutional principles governing the conduct of public and state officers," Haji noted.

He recommended that they are charged and prosecuted with conspiracy to commit an economic crime, abuse of office and conflict of interest.
