Prison Officer Who Doubles Up As a Rapper

Onesmus Kamau, a constable at the Nyeri Medium Prison doubles up as a rapper who goes by the name Onesih, The Kirinyaga Kid.

Speaking to Daily Nation, the constable stated he always wanted to be a policeman, however, along the way, he realised he had a talent in singing.

“I am fortunate that everyday, I get to do the two things that I love; serving my country and singing. Music is my talent, my job is a passion,” he noted.

The constable has doubled up as a musician for three years.

He stated that his bosses have been very supportive adding, the Commissioner-General of Prisons allowed him to perform in his official uniform.

Kamau indicates that his job as a policeman makes it difficult for people to get him performing gigs.

“Many people find it difficult to view me as a musician, what often comes through is the law enforcer in me," he stated.

He also added those who attend his gigs are usually cautious and they do not enjoy the music fully.

Onesih, The Kirinyaga Kid has released nine songs and is set to launch the album soon.

Some of his songs include “Ikue Ikue”, “I Made It”, “Wendo”, “Siko Ithaa” and “Njeri”.
