Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Thursday, went all out against The Star following a controversial sex story.
The publication had ran an article titled "Linturi unable to 'rise to the occasion' - wife".
The newspaper detailed how Senator Mithika Linturi's matrimonial dispute was partly caused by his alleged ineptness in the bedroom department.
“Linturi was unable to rise to the occasion in the bedroom on several occasions, claiming exhaustion, sickness, but for most of the part he simply could not,” The Star quoted Linturi's wife Mary Keitany's court documents.
The packaging of the story, however, left a bad taste in the mouth of the Nairobi boss who slammed the publication's tendency to significantly slant towards the sleazy stories.
"This is nonsense of the highest order and totally unacceptable. The Star is becoming a gutter press day by day. We shall not allow them to publish bedroom stories of other men with their wives.
"Which journalist was present in their bedroom during that material night. Shenzi nyinyi (You idiots)" posted the governor.
Sonko even advised the Senator to seek legal redress offering to be an amicus curiae (friend of the court) for free.
"Linturi take them to court, this is good money. And since your matrimonial residence is in Nairobi I shall be an amicus curiae in this case on probono," he continued.
This is, however, not the first time the governor had attacked the publication.
In 2017, he slammed two journalists from the newspaper of attempted blackmail by publishing a story about tensions between him and his then deputy Polycarp Igathe.
Sonko claimed that the story had been published as a retaliation after he refused to pre-qualify proxy companies belonging to the two journalists to do supplies in Nairobi county.
However, the claims somehow materialized when Igathe finally tabled his resignation as the DG barely six months after assuming office.
During his exit, Igathe cited failure to earn the trust of his boss Governor Sonko to enable him to deliver services to Nairobians.
