Kenya Power Issue Notice on Token System Temporary Shut-down

Electricity distributor Kenya Power, on Friday, issued a notice on a scheduled prepaid token system maintenance, during which tokens will not be available.

In a press release seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Kenya Power will shut down their prepaid system on Tuesday 9, 2019 from 11pm to 6pm Wednesday 10, 2019.

"This is to enable migration of data to new hardware for improved service delivery," revealed an excerpt of their statement.

Pre-paid users will not be able to purchase tokens through banking halls, prepaid Paybill number (888880) or any other payment channels.

"As such, we advise our customers to purchase tokens early to avoid inconveniences from the shutdown," the state-owned company reiterated.

There was a huge outcry after Kenyans were plunged into darkness on January 23, 2019, following an outage of the Kenya Power token purchase system.

In October and November last year, the electricity distributor also shut down their systems to facilitate the implementation of new electricity tariffs.

Customers had been experiencing challenges when accessing the prepaid services prior to last year's shut-down.

Similarly, a notice was issued at around the same period last year for what was termed as 'system maintenance' following complaints regarding delays when purchasing tokens.
