Obado Vows to Defend Troubled Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang’

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has vowed to play his part in vindicating troubled Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang'.

The Supreme Court judge is facing probe over gross misconduct for allegedly delivering a favourable ruling to Migori Governor Okoth Obado in exchange for a road to his residence.

While addressing journalists in Migori on Thursday, the governor revealed that Justice Ojwang' was innocent and that he was willing to appear before a tribunal to testify to the same.

Obado further denied claims that he spent taxpayers money to build the controversial road as a good gesture for a favourable ruling.

“I stand with Justice Ojwang’. The accusations against him are malicious.

“The road in question is a public facility. Justice Ojwang’ is just one of hundreds of villagers using it,” The Standard quoted him.

In a special gazette notice, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Justice Alnasir Visram to chair a tribunal investigating the conduct of Justice Ojwang'.

“In the discharge of its functions, the Tribunal shall prepare and submit a report and its recommendations thereon to me expeditiously and exercise all the powers conferred upon it by Law for the proper execution of its mandate,” Uhuru stated.

The judge was subsequently suspended from his post in order to pave way for investigations to be completed.

Earlier in March, Chief Justice David Maraga wrote to President Uhuru Kenyatta, recommending the formation of a tribunal to determine whether Justice Ojwang' will be expelled from the Supreme Court.
