Migori Governor Okoth Obado is now free to roam his county thanks to High Court Judge Jessie Lesiit.
In a ruling on Tuesday, Lesiit lifted a ban that had been imposed on the county boss restricting him from accessing Homa Bay County in connection with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
The judge ruled that the governor was free to access the county which he leads since the purpose of the bail condition has been served and is no longer a necessary condition.
He was however, barred from speaking about the murder of the slain student or interact with witnesses expected to testify in the case.
This was after Obado had pleaded with the court to review his bail term in order to allow him monitor the county's development projects.
Through his lawyer, Kioko Kilukumi, the governor had argued that the order barring him from going past 20km radius of Migori’s border with Homa Bay County limited his abilities to discharge duties.
“The 20 kilometres radius restriction essentially bars the governor from effectively serving all the people residing in Migori and makes it impracticable for him to discharge his duties as the governor. It is only fair that the terms be reviewed to allow him do his work,” argued the lawyer.
He further revealed that Obado had to put up with strenuous and expensive routes just to access his office.
He was also forced to keep off his ancestral and village home at Rapogi which is located roughly 11 Kilometres from the contested Homa Bay border.
Obado is a suspect, alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Migori county clerk Caspal Obiero, in the murder of Sharon Otieno whose body was found in a thicket in Oyugis, Homabay County.
