A fire has broken out at a tourist hotel in Malindi.
The fire was reported to have started at around 12.30 pm on Wednesday.
"A fire broke out at some villas in Malindi near St. Peter Hospital - Casuarina road. The situation is worse because fire brigade is not yet on the ground. People are looting massively mostly beach boys," wrote Juma Odhiambo
The tourists who were booked at the hotel were left stranded as photos showed resident carrying away mattresses and other items from the hotel.
The source further added that the foreigners were desperate and shocked.
The fire was intensified by the strong winds and the heat as one of the witnesses divulged.
The residents were also angered by the fact that the fire department in Malindi took long to extinguish the inferno which led to massive losses.
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross tweeted that it had already dispatched a team to the scene of the incident to follow up and assist where necessary.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
