UK Ambassador Nic Hailey, on Thursday, called out Nation Media Group for running an inaccurate story inside Business Daily newspaper.
The ambassador argued that the publication did not reach out to the embassy for comment before running the story.
He was responding to a story that had appeared on the paper's Thursday cover revealing that the country was set to lose up to Ksh2 Billion if Britain exited the European Union without a deal.
Hailey reassured the country that no matter the outcome, Kenya would maintain a duty-free and quota-free access for exports to the UK.
"This is entirely inaccurate. Deal or no deal, the UK will ensure Kenya retains duty-free, quota-free access for exports to the UK.
"We have made this clear to Kenyan exporters and will keep them briefed. Ask us before printing wrong stuff," Hailey posted on Social media with an image of the paper's cover.
In the article, Business Daily explained that the revelations were contained in a study commissioned by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The paper further revealed that if that happened, it would make the country one of the worst hit economies in Africa.
The study ranked Kenya among the African countries that would suffer more losses alongside Morocco which would lose Ksh9.7 Billion, Ghana (Ksh9.1 Billion), Tunisia (Ksh4.8 Billion) and Mozambique (Ksh3.2 Billion).
Kenya made Ksh38.6 billion exports to UK in the year that ended in December 2017 from the highest ever exports of Ksh50.3 Billion experienced in 2009.
