Kenyans Lecture Governor for Banning Sunday Market Days

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia found himself on the wrong side of Netizens when he made a decision to ban Sunday as market days.

The governor linked his government's woes to the fact that market days in his county were on Sundays.

Sundays should be dedicated to thanking God and not for trade. Personally, I see it as ungodly for some people to take advantage of the day not to go to church but to the market. My administration will not encourage this,” he stated.

Maybe God is angry with us for not dedicating the day to thank him. From now henceforth, we want to put God first and it starts with dedicating Sundays as the day to attend church,” he added.

Kenyans could not take this lying down and the responses came in fast and furious.

Referee Mwenyewe was quick to defend the ‘poor farmer’ in Nyandarua County noting, “Religiosity and intelligence seem not to merge in Nyandarua County. What ought to be banned.? Oppression of a poor farmer or the poor farmer going to the market on Sunday?”

Kwa hivyo wanaoabudu Ijumaa, Jumamosi au Jumatano hawamjui Mungu (So those who worship on Friday, Saturday or Wednesday do not know God)? This escapism using religion is what's killing Africa! Bad governance and rampant corruption are the major drivers of…,” Mwalimu Kahato responded.

Freedom of worship also includes freedom from worship,” declared one Victor Mate.

Annah Kimani thought the whole idea was a mess, she took to her Twitter account to criticise the Governor stating, “Very bad. Badly conceptualized, badly thought of, badly imagined and now badly brought forth into fruition” she reiterated.

People like Governor Kimemia are so naive and clueless about the constitution. They believe that the positions they hold make them CONSTITUTION unto themselves. Bwana Governor,Achieng’ Otieno.
