A police officer was arrested on Friday after he stormed a pub in Kisii and opened fire killing one person in the process.
The officer, who is attached to Itumbe Police Station, reportedly stormed Maximum Pub, located 400 meters from the police post, on Thursday night and killed Dominic Oyunge.
According to a witness identified as Peter Mokua who was inside the bar at the time the incident occured, the suspect entered the bar at around 10:20pm and then threatened to kill everybody who was inside.
“He aimed the gun at Oyunge and shot him once,” stated Mokua.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Criminal Investigations Commander James Kipsoi revealed that the suspect would be arraigned in court later on Friday where they would seek for the officer to be detained longer to allow them complete investigations.
“The suspect is in our custody and we expect him to appear in court,” explained Kipsoi.
Oyunge worked as a guard at the bar after ditching his boda boda business just a few days ago.
In January this year, a police officer in Murang'a shot and killed a football fan after he was infuriated that his team lost the match.
Martin Waweru, a resident of Muruka Village in Kandara Constituency was allegedly shot three times by the Administration Police (AP) officer attached to Muruka AP camp while heading home from a local bar after a football match.
Reports indicated that the officer was infuriated after his favourite team, Chelsea, lost to Arsenal by two goals to nil.
