Kalonzo Musyoka Admits to Pocketing Ksh 200K Meant For Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has disclosed that he took some money that was supposed to be handed to a lawmaker.

The former Vice President made the revelation during a presser held at Wiper's offices on Thursday, April 11.

Kalonzo explained that someone approached him with Ksh. 200,000 on April 5 as Embakasi South constituents were heading to the polls.

The money was meant to be given to Julius Mawathe who was contesting the seat on a Wiper ticket.

Kalonzo stated that he decided to keep the money since he could not locate Mawathe.

"In fact, I have just made a confession. On the voting day itself, someone brought Ksh 200,000 ahakikishe Mawathe anashinda (to ensure Mawathe won).

"Na mimi kwa sababu hiyo siku Mawathe alikuwa ana randa randa kila polling station, nikaenda nikanunua mbegu (Mawathe was up and down at the polling stations, so I decided to use the money to buy seeds)," he explained.

Mawathe was declared as the winner of the Embakasi South parliamentary by-election on April 6.

He garnered 21,628 votes to defeat ODM’s Irshad Sumra who got 7,988 votes.

The Embakasi South parliamentary seat fell vacant in December 2018 after a successful petition.
