Furious Matiang'i Fired Police Boss After Busting Him Lying

Interior Cabinet Secretary Matiang'i likes to take charge and does not entertain mediocrity as was evident when he called for the firing of a police boss who slacked on his duties and lied about it.

The senior police officer was found to have lied to the Interior Ministry about investigating a case where an election observer Martha Miano, was assaulted by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua's aide during a by-election in Ruguru Ward, Nyeri County in 2018.

“The Regional Commissioner Central told me that the victim had been given a P3 and the people who perpetrated that act were supposed to be taken to court," Matiang'i stated.

Upon follow up, the CS found out that the OCPD walked into the police station with the aggressor and then walked out shortly after.

After a video of the incident went viral, the Interior Ministry and the country as well was made to believe that the perpetrator had been arrested, booked and a case would be instituted.

"These guys begin by lying to their Regional Commissioner. Then they lie to the Regional Police Commander who in turns lies to the Deputy Inspector General and lies to the Inspector General," Matiang'i narrated.

“When we checked, there was no OB entry, no P3 was written, no report taken and being told these people were going to court was a lie," revealed the CS.

He added that a senior officer of that kind had no business being in the police force.

Back then, reports indicated that trouble began when the lady observer made a voter bribery claim and was attacked shortly after.

In the ensuing fracas, she was also accused of having been a political campaigner for one of the candidates before assuming her role as an observer.

As the MP was consulting IEBC officials on how a campaigner was given an observer's badge, the accused man came forward and slapped her.

Martha, the victim told Kenyans.co.ke that after Matiang'i highlighted the incident, a case was instituted but the hearing is yet to start due to constant postponements. She looks forward to appearing in court in June 2019 if the hearing is not pushed to another date again.
