How FIDA Plans to Help Ivy Wangechi's Family

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has called to action the rise in deaths of femicide in the Country. In a press release by the body, it has condoled with families of ladies who have been brutally murdered.

The body states that 50 homicide cases have been recorded in the period between January and April 2019, with Ivy Wangechi's murder being one of the latest.

"We will reach out to the affected families to provide legal aid and watch brief in the matters to ensure justice is served," part of the release read.

The body further called on the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang'i to urgently intervene in the matter to enforce deliberate and actionable steps towards public participation and national dialogue.

The body also asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to take swift action on the cases so as to ensure justice is served to the perpetrators.

On April 9, 2019, Ivy Wangechi, a medical student at Moi University was hacked to death by Naftali Kinuthia who claimed he had sent him money for her birthday.

On April 10, 2019, Caroline Jepchirchir, a prison warden's body was found in a thicket in Subukia. It is suspected that a love triangle could have led to her death.

Penina Wangechi and Naomi Chepkemoi also fell victim to Gender-Based Violence.

FIDA has asked Kenyans of good will to peacefully demonstrate and express disapproval of these femicides.
