The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily closed following a false bomb alarm on a flight headed to Johannesburg.
Kenya Airways (KQ) Head of Communications & Public Affairs- Dennis Kashero, has since issued a statement affirming the incident.
"At approximately 1300 GMT today Kenya Airways was notified of a possible bomb threat on one of our flights. The unfortunate bomb scare incident was reported on flight KQ 762, which was departing from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for OR-Tambo International Airport Johannesburg," an excerpt of the statement revealed.
He also revealed that the passenger responsible for the alarm had been taken into custody while the rest of the passengers and crew had disembarked for security re-screening.
The plane on the other hand was stated to be currently undergoing thorough security checks as a precautionary measure.
"We work closely with the relevant law enforcement agencies, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and the Kenya Airports Authority to counter any security threats to our passengers and the country. We will give you further updates as we get the," Mr Kashero affirmed in the statement.
The fracas is reported to have ensued following a confrontation between a passenger and one of the flight attendants.
Reports by Citizen Digital state that the suspect allegedly mentioned the word bomb during the argument, sending the passengers and crew into a frenzy.
The airport is reportedly under lock-down until further notice as security personnel carry out a thorough screening to ensure all possible threats have been neutralized.
In a tweet seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) have now given the all-clear for normal services to resume at the airport.
"Jambo! We would like to clarify to the general public that flight operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport are up and running." KAA tweeted.
