Raila to Accompany Uhuru to China to Seek Ksh368 Billion SGR Loan

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga will depart to China next week to seek a Ksh368 Billion loan, Nation reports.

According to the publication, the funds will be used to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu.

While addressing a rally at Sondu market on Saturday, Odinga revealed that he would be part of Uhuru Kenyatta's entourage to China.

"I will be part of the delegation that will accompany the President to the Asian country next week.

"The new SGR line will extend from Naivasha to Narok, Bomet, Sondu and finally Kisumu," he stated.

Odinga explained that the loan would help revive the Kisumu inland port which was affected when the old railway line collapsed.

He went on to add that the infrastructure would boost the county's economy by providing employment opportunities to many Kenyans.

"We are going to establish a special economic zone in Kisumu and make the city the hub of East Africa," he added.

The government is currently repaying a Ksh319 Billion loan that it took in 2014 to build a 385 Km modern railway between Mombasa and Nairobi.
