Fire Razes Barclays Bank Murang'a Branch

A fire broke out at Barclays bank Murang'a branch on Monday afternoon at around 1pm forcing workers in adjacent buildings to evacuate for safety reasons.

Firefighters were reportedly quick to the scene as they battled to contain the inferno before it spread to other buildings.

Murang’a Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI)- Julius Rutererevealed to Citizen Digital that initial investigations showed the fire started in the bank’s server room between 1 and 2pm.

“We are not suspecting any foul play, initial assessment points at an electric fault being the main source of the fire but that is subject to confirmation. We will call the fire people to confirm the same,” said Mr. Rutere.

Witness reports released by the Nation revealed that a pungent smell filled the air prior to people realizing that it was actually a fire that had broken out.

An employee at a law firm located next to the Barclays premises- Joyce Macharia revealed that she saw huge smoke coming out of the building, adding that she fled for her safety.

"I was in the office when I noticed a foul smell and after it persisted, I switched off the electricity and came out of the office, I later saw that the smoke was coming from the bank," she revealed.

Barclays bank Murang'a branch is situated right next to Amica Savings and Credit Sacco which was previously referred to as Murata Sacco.

No casualties have been reported, owing to the fact that the fire broke during Easter Monday holiday.
