Boda Boda Rider Caught Stealing Relief Food Minutes After CS Visit

A boda boda rider was, on Tuesday, caught on camera stealing relief food in Baringo county minutes after Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa visited the area.

A K24TV news crew established that the rider was part of two men who stole the food meant to reach starving Kenyans at the Mogotio Sub-County Commissioner's office.

The journalists secretly trailed and filmed the men delivering the food to an Agrovet store in the town, most likely to sell.

The theft occurred minutes after CS Wamalwa, who, during a tour of the area, warned of dire consequences should anyone be found to have stolen, or sold the food.

"We must ensure the food reaches the people of Kenya. That's why were are here to monitor food distribution and see what more we can do," he stated.

Earlier in April, Wamalwa revealed that the government had disbursed Ksh1.8 Billion to combat famine in the country since January.

Speaking on the state of drought and famine in the country, the CS stated that the money had gone into helping almost 100,000 households mitigate the effects of drought in the country.

“We have, through the hunger safety-net program, been able to transfer in this period from January about Ksh1 Billion which has gone towards helping almost 100,000 households," he stated.

The Devolution CS noted that there were 13 counties affected by the drought with Turkana, Wajir, Mandera and Marsabit counties being the worst hit.
