Citizen TV anchor Willis Raburu has opened up about the unpleasant one-week-long honeymoon experience that he and his wife Mary Ngami-Raburu endured.
Speaking to Reverend Kathy Kiuna on Citizen TV’s show, Woman Without Limits, Raburu revealed that he was broke at the time and paid for the honeymoon on the day of the wedding.
“Our honeymoon was a disaster. I was paying for our honeymoon on the day of our wedding. And, making it worse, I sent half the money that was needed because I did not have enough cash with me on that day,” he recounted.
Raburu revealed that he was stressed when his wife nearly cried since he did not know her tastes and what she liked.
“I could see she was wearing that face of Tumejaribu (we have tried) I know we are not where we should be, but we are somewhere,” Raburu noted.
According to Mary, she was terrified the whole time since the room which they had booked was full of crawling animals.
“This room had a bed that was too high… I had to literally climb it. The room also had millipedes coloured black and red. They could appear anywhere,” she began.
She added that one day a black animal resembling a monitor lizard just got into the room. And on another occasion, she stated that they could hear some sounds in the seats which were akin to scratches from claws.
“We were forced to move the seat outside the room, and mark you, the time was 1 am,” she noted.
Raburu also mentioned that they used to put towels on the lower opening between the door and the floor to prevent snails from entering the room.
The bubbly Citizen TV host further disclosed that he had to postpone his engagement to Mary several times since he couldn't afford the type of ring he wanted to get for her.
The couple finally wedded on May 6, 2017, in a colourful ceremony.
