Classic 105 Presenter Mike Mondo Narrates Being Raised by 4 Mothers

Classic 105 radio presenter Mike Mondo on Friday revealed that he was brought up by four mothers after his father passed away when he was only 13-years-old.

Speaking to Amina Abdi-Rabar on The Trend, the husky-voiced radio presenter stated that he learned most of the best life lessons from these great women.

They include his late grandmother, his mother, his auntie and her mum’s best friend.

Mondo, who hosts the Overdrive Show alongside Terry Muikamba every Monday to Friday paid special tribute to her mother’s best friend, Rahab Mwendwa who she attributes his radio career to.

He stated that Mwendwa was the first person who encouraged him to start doing radio after noting that he had the personality, voice, and charisma to succeed in the industry.

The other woman in Mondo’s life was his grandmother, Mary Mwamodo who he praised for instilling a sense togetherness and resilience in the family unit.

He mentioned that his grandmother was part of the women who pioneered Maendeleo ya Wanawake movement and was even chairman at some point in Mombasa, rising to the ranks of National chairman.

Mondo described his mother as a strong woman who managed to raise four boys on her own after his father passed away.

He narrated how when his father passed his mother was not working and had to get back into the job market and find a way to put all her children to school up to university.

The fourth woman who he mentioned was his auntie Elizabeth Mwangi, who took them in during a difficult period in their family journey.

He stated that Mwangi took care of him during his entire university days and early on when he started working, where she would provide bus fare and food among other essentials.
