Sonko Exposes Ksh100M Extortion Attempt by Auditor General's Office

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday revealed how some dishonest investigators from the Auditor General's office tried to extort Ksh100 million from him.

Speaking at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Nairobi, the first-time governor stated that the current holder of the office, Edward Ouko, is a decent man.

However, according to Sonko, the people who work under Ouko are very corrupt.

He recounted how he was approached one night by investigators from the Auditor General's office.

They asked him to part with Ksh100 million or they would write a bad report about Nairobi County.

Sonko then asked them why Kidero had bad audit reports yet he had been paying them to cover up his tracks.

They informed him that Kidero's audit queries were more than the ones that the public saw.

Sonko disclosed that he refused to give them the money even after they had revised the amount downwards to Ksh50 million.

After a week, the investigators returned with a draft of the report they had prepared to coerce him to pay up. However, the governor stood his ground.

The misleading report was then handed to Ouko since they did not adequate time to prepare another one.

Sonko went on to add that the report had misleading details which caused bad blood between him and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi

He explained that they had falsely indicated that Linturi's brother had been awarded a contract to construct a road.
