The drama surrounding Herman Manyora has taken a new twist after a Nairobi Court on Monday, 7 July, suspended his appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA) board.

Manyora’s suspension follows a petition challenging the legitimacy of his claim to the position.

The political analyst’s position is now in limbo after the ruling, pending the determination of the petition challenging his tenure. The case is set to be heard next Thursday.

On Monday, the Board of Management of The Nairobi Hospital issued a public notice cautioning stakeholders and the general public against engaging with Manyora in any capacity.

According to the notice, Manyora’s claim to the chairmanship stemmed from what was described as a ‘self-appointment process not recognised under the laws and constitution governing the Association.’

In the notice, the board stressed that Manyora was neither authorised to act on behalf of KHA nor Nairobi Hospital.

“The institution will not be liable for any transactions or representations made by him or his agents,” the notice read.

Manyora, known for his political commentary and academic work, is yet to respond to the suspension or the Nairobi Hospital board’s statement.

Over the past few days, there has been confusion regarding the management at the Nairobi Hospital. On one hand, a faction led by Manyora claimed the analyst holds the legitimate leadership of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA).

The Manyora-led team released a statement on Friday, July 4, declaring that Dr Barcley Onyambu was lawfully removed as chairperson following a board resolution passed on June 30, 2025.

“Dr. Barcley Onyambu was lawfully removed from the position of Chairman and Prof. Herman Manyora was duly elected in his place,” the statement read.

“Prof. Manyora is now fully vested with the mandate, authority, and responsibilities of the office of Chairperson of the Board and is legally entitled to discharge all functions attendant to the role.”

However, following the decision, Onyambu, with the support of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary, refused to leave office, prompting legal intervention.
