The police attention has been drawn to a suicide note that has been making rounds on social media.
The two-page letter, which was allegedly drafted by a University student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, is addressed to parents and teachers.
Kakamega Sub-County Police Commander, David Kabena stated that they were treating the matter seriously and had forwarded it to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
"Attempted suicide is a criminal offense," he stated.
He added that investigators would probe the authenticity of the letter and take action.
The student, who identified himself as Jared narrated that he had undergone a lot of problems yet no one was offering him any help.
"I have now seen it important to commit suicide and leave you in peace. I know such a decision will be of pain to people but all in all, don’t worry because you never cared about me,” read part of the note.
In the letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the University student also set out conditions for his burial.
He stated that he did not want to be buried in a coffin adding that he wanted his suicide letter read before the people that attended his burial.
"If you never gave me food, don’t also afford to buy a coffin,” he added.
He further thanked his parents and church, whom he noted had always been by his side.
