Labour Day Celebrations Halted Briefly by Sonko Protestors

Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park were briefly halted by a group of protestors who disrupted the event by running across the field, shouting and blowing whistles.

The protestors were in T-shirts written Sonko Defense Forces as they carried a banner with the same writings.

The Master of Ceremony tried to calm them down, some of whom included boda-boda operators by assuring them that they were welcomed to the event.

"Mchukue nafasi yenyu huko juu, msiende kable hamjaskiza governor( Make sure you take seats at the back so that you can listen to the governor's speech," he stated.

Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, who appeared infuriated started making calls as he shook his head.

However, security officers at the event contained the situation as they forced out the group away.

This comes a day after a seemingly angry Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, fired back at the county's Senator Johnson Sakaja exposing his alleged tax evasion.

Appearing before the Senate, County Public Accounts and Investment Committee chaired by Senator Moses Kajwang, the governor intimated that Sakaja had cost the county's revenues by not settling taxes amounting to Kshs40 million.

He also revealed that the senator, through a company identified as Seven Star Media Ltd, had refused to remit the levies after erecting billboards and poles across the city.
