Mystery Drink Found in Assa Nyakundi's Car in Fresh Probe

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is probing a mystery drink that was found in lawyer Assa Naykundi's vehicle following fresh investigations.

The detectives are now waiting for the Government chemist to determine what the drink contained.

The office of the DCI and that of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recalled files that had been used in the lawyer's case determination and ordered a public inquiry.

"I don't know why there was a rush to conclude that it was manslaughter before all these reports had been filed," DCI Boss George Kinoti stated.

Investigators noted that none of the witnesses interviewed had mentioned about the drink and vomit that was found on the floor of the car.

"We are waiting for the Government chemist to give us a report. It will help us unravel the motive behind the killing," a detective noted.

City lawyer Assa Nyakundi, on March 17, 2019, shot dead his son in what he claimed was an accident. However, detectives into the matter have disputed this claim.

The investigators have also interdicted several officers who are believed to have bungled the case by filing a weak manslaughter charge before the ballistics and post-morterm report was released.

"This is one of those cases I was not briefed at all by my officers. I only heard of the manslaughter charge from the media," Kinoti stated.

"Even the DPP was horrified," he added.

Reports by Daily Nation indicate that the new team of investigators has been asked to gather all the evidence and file a new case in court.
