Former Kangundo Member of Parliament (MP) and Kapenguria Six member, Paul Ngei, was well known for his love for the ladies.
A report by the Daily Nation revealed that Mr Ngei was once called to testify in what was dubbed as a sensational murder trial of fellow Minister's daughter, Captain Judy Kambura Angaine (daughter to the then Lands and Settlement Minister Jackson Angaine).
Her death gripped the country for an entire year from the moment she was found strangled in a bathtub in her house, No. 64 Ngei estate on March 30, 1978.
Mr Ngei was summoned to testify as he was reportedly the last person to have seen her alive when he dropped her off at her apartment after draining a bottle of wine with her at the Karen Country Club.
When questioned by the defence lawyer on what he had been doing with the deceased on the day of her gruesome murder, his response was straight and to the point.
“Well, I would say that’s a silly question. You shouldn’t ask a man why he was in the company of a beautiful lady. Every normal man wants to have a nice looking woman next to him!” He responded furiously.
However, Major David Kimeu Kisila (the deceased boyfriend) gave a different account of events when called to testify.
On the night of March 29, a day before she died, the court was told Capt Angaine had arrived from running an errand in Molo and had gone to see her father in his Ardhi House office.
He alleged that on the fateful day, Captain Judy's father left for his farm in Meru, adding that Mr Ngei, who was in the Cooperatives docket, and had an office in the same building, offered to give her a lift to her house in the estate named after him.
He later claimed to have found the two at her house drinking whisky hours after they left the office.
Mr Ngei was then alleged to have left with her for more drinks at Lang'ata Club and then to Woodley Club in Nairobi.
Mr Kisila went on to make startling revelations that the late Captain Judy had confided in him that Mr Ngei had tried to make advances at her while driving back and that when she resisted, they lost control of their vehicle and rolled several times.
The former Kangudo MP was so renown for his flirtatious nature that he was nickname FD or Fagia Dunia, with his cabinet joking that he had a girlfriend in every world capital he ever visited.
Fourty years later, Ms Angaine's murder is yet to be solved, with Mr Kisila who was charged with her murder acquited and released on November 1, 1978.
Police pathologist at the time, A.L. Ribeiro also revealed to the court that Captain Judy was sexually assaulted before she was killed.
