Boy Turns Deaf After Police Beating on His Way to Get Huduma Namba

Two police officers in Ndhiwa allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old boy on Thursday last week, who was on his way to register for Huduma Namba and left him deaf.

Almada Onyango was beaten up by the police officers from Kamata AP line after trying to intercede an argument between them and a Form one student from his school.

Onyango's mother, Lea Okong'o, narrated that the police wanted to arrest the Form one student who was in a motorbike, thinking he was a boda-boda operator.

The Standard reports that Onyango, who was on his way to register for Huduma Namba stopped and tried to explain to the police that the boy was a student at their school. However, the police officer started beating him up.

"The officers pounced on him, took him to the AP camp and assaulted him," Onyango's mother stated.

“The officers threatened to shoot me if I dared enter the room where my son was being held. They were still assaulting him. I screamed for help and boda-boda operators who heard my cry came and rescued my son from the officers,” she added.

Ms Okong'o noted that his son had not spoken nor eaten ever since the ordeal happened.

The hospital's CEO Meshack Liru where the boy has been admitted stated that Onyango suffered injuries that affected the nerves that control his voice box.

Esther Seroney, a County police boss stated that investigations are underway and justice would be served.
