Police officers from Karagita Police Station in Naivasha were lauded by area residents after they foiled a 3am robbery at a nearby petrol station.
Reports indicate that a group of more than 10 thugs had raided a Shell petrol station along Moi South Lake Road at around 3am and rounded up four guards that were manning the facility.
According to Fred Waithaka who witnessed the whole incident, one of the guards managed to escape and ran to the police station to report the ongoing robbery.
When the police heard of the situation, they swiftly responded in a bid to avert any loss of valuables to the thugs.
The suspects fled from the scene after their efforts to break into one of the offices failed and they heard police sirens approaching.
“The officers rushed to the scene but the thugs managed to escape after failing to open the room where the cash had been kept,” Waithaka stated.
The guards escaped with minor injuries.
Earlier in the day, the same officers had raided a house in the estate and recovered bhang worth thousands of shillings.
During the raid, they arrested seven suspects including the owner of the house who is said to be a drug dealer in the sprawling estate.
Witnesses praised the police involved in the sting operation stating that the use of bhang had become a norm in the area where most flower farm employees reside.
Naivasha Police boss Samuel Waweru confirmed both incidents and revealed that a manhunt had been launched for the thugs that tried to rob the petrol station.
“We are following some leads over the attempted robbery while the seven suspects nabbed with the bhang will be arraigned in court facing various charges,” he added.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke Paul Mahagwa, a resident of the area, revealed that the police had reached out to the people in a bid to get them to cooperate and consequently reduce crime in the area.
