Kenyan Motorists will be forced to dig deeper as a result of an increase in fuel prices announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
In its latest review, the body announced that Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene had increased by Ksh 5.43, Ksh 2.24 and Ksh 2.40 per litre respectively.
"In accordance with Legal Notice No. 196 of 2010, the Energy (Petroleum Pricing) Regulations and the amendment thereof, EPRA has calculated the maximum retail pump prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th May to 14th June 2019." EPRA tweeted.
The government agency went on to explain that the purpose of fuel pricing regulations was to cap the pump prices of petroleum products so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered.
In a press release by the authorities Director General, Robert Pavel Oimeke, they went on to announce the various hike in prices.
Oimeke affirmed that the new prices would take effect from Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
They attributed the huge hike to the Free On Board price of Murban crude oil shooting from Ksh 6,800 per barrel to Ksh 7,300 in April 2019.
