Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Thursday shared a throwback video of his wife, Primrose Mbuvi, unveiling the double-decker buses in Nairobi.
In the video, Primerose appears on CNBC Africa show, Kenya this week, in 2001 and talks about her bus company, Primix Entreprises where she is the Director.
Also appearing in the video is seasoned journalist Teryanne Chebet who interviews her about the entry of the double-decker buses into the competitive public transport business.
Chebet explains that the buses were a game changer at the time considering that two matatus could only take up to 24 passengers, whereas a double-decker took up to 103 passengers in one trip.
Chebet was also curious to find out from Primerose how she managed the business.
According to Primerose, her company customized the buses to suite all kinds of persons in the society including the young and the old.
She added that the maintenance of the buses was quite affordable since they had personnel who received training from Thailand to make sure that the operations ran smoothly.
According to the passengers who were interviewed, travelling in the buses was a tourist -like experience.
Furthermore, they lauded the management of the bus especially the conductors who were female and used respectful languages, unlike the matatu ones.
