Plan Uhuru & Kalonzo Hatched To Deny Raila Presidency

President Uhuru Kenyatta and former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka reportedly met secretly to iron out a full-proof plan to ensure Raila Odinga never became the president of Kenya.

Veteran politician Joe Khamisi's book The Politics of Betrayal: Diary of a Kenyan Legislator revealed in-depth details of a meeting held on July 4, 2007, at Uhuru's private office at the Chancery Building along Valley Road, Nairobi.

There were many subsequent meetings in regards to their agenda to stop Raila at all costs, but it was in this particular one that the two laid out their battle plans.

Under tight security, both politicians brought along three aides; Uhuru came with then KANU party leaders Dalmas Otieno, Marsden Madoka, and Naomi Shabaan.

Kalonzo, on the other hand, chose David Musila, Nyiva Mwendwa and author, Joe Khamisi as his trusted confidants.

The 2007 general elections were barely six months away and the nomination wrangles within Raila's ODM-Kenya party had planted seeds of discord within Kalonzo who felt he deserved a fair shot at the nominations.

Uhuru on his part was still licking his wounds following Raila's tactful orchestration of his humiliating defeat in the 2002 elections.

President Moi's handpicked presidential candidate was furious with Raila and ODM-Kenya party (to which his KANU party was still hitched to).

"That evening I saw Jomo in Uhuru, complete with the former President’s menacing eyes. He was lashing out at Raila, just as his father did to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (Raila’s father) way back in 1969," an excerpt of Khamisi's book revealed.

Describing Raila as a potential dictator and uncontrollable, the two came up with a plan that would involve isolating Raila by forming a third alliance party.

“This alliance must be formidable enough to stop Raila, otherwise, this man will give us trouble,” Uhuru reportedly stated.

Kalonzo on his part felt that Raila was acting like he owned the party and that his presidency would spell doom for the country.

"It would be dangerous to trust Raila with the leadership of the country. Can you imagine what Raila will do to all of us? He will step all over the rest of us after he becomes president. We should not allow that to happen,” Kalonzo asserted.

However, unknown to them, Raila had an ace up his sleeve, on his end, he had been convening secret meetings of his own with William Ruto, whom he used to muscle Kalonzo back into the fold.

The final nail to their short-lived third alliance grand scheme came when Uhuru jumped ship in support of Mwai Kibaki bid for the presidency, leaving Kalonzo high and dry.
