Angry Reactions After Babu Owino Implicates Ruto in Gold Scam

Kenyans angrily narrowed down on Embakassi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Monday, accusing him of being vague, after the parliamentarian posted on both his Facebook and Twitter accounts, a claim that implicates Deputy President William Ruto in the fake gold scam.

Babu claimed that he knew the identity of one of the people DP Ruto sold fake gold to and that he was planning to release the dossier very soon.

I know of one client whom the Deputy President sold fake gold to. Dossier coming out soon. Hatupendi ujinga (We don’t like stupidity)” Babu claimed.

However, Kenyans did not buy into the story, arguing that Babu was only out to defend his ODM party leader Raila Odinga whose name was mentioned in relation to the fake gold scam.

Raila’s name has been tagged alongside those of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ i.

Babu’s move was seen by many as a reaction to DP Ruto’s defense of Uhuru’s name being mentioned in the scandal via leaked audio.

DP Ruto earlier on attacked the opposition, claiming that they were dragging the president's name in a bid to salvage themselves.

On Sunday, Homa Bay County Women Rep Gladys Wanga jumped to Raila's defense accusing DP Ruto of calling the ODM leader a conman.

Investigations into the fake gold scandal are already underway and new details have emerged of the sequence of how events unfolded before the news broke out earlier this month.

The Standard revealed that Dubai leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was alerted of the scam after a meeting with Odinga.
