Athletes Hospitalised After Car Hits Them During Training

Four athletes are recuperating at the Kapabet County Referal hospital after being hit by a car during their early morning training.

Among them is 2019 Rotterdam Marathon silver medalist Stella Barsosio.

The athletes were training along the Kapsabet-Lessos road when the incident happened.

One of the injured athletes spoke to members of the press and narrated the incident from his wheelchair.

He said that the driver came from behind them before ramming into three of his colleagues and eventually him.

The victims were taken to hospital with injuries in the face, arms and legs.

Fellow athletes made their way to the hospital to offer moral support to their injured colleagues.

At the time of writing, it was not yet clear the extent of the injuries on their careers.

Other athletes have called on the police to deliver justice by arresting the driver and revoking his licence.

They also called on the athletes to be compensated as they may not be able to race for a very long time.

The area police chief, speaking to Citizen TV, confirmed the incident adding that the car involved in the accident had been impounded and was in police custody.
