Drama as Cleric Fights Worshiper in Mosque Over Alshabaab Link

Drama was witnessed at a Mosque in Kapsabet, Nandi county, after a cleric and a worshiper engaged in a fist fight on Wednesday evening.

Police had to intervene in the incident after other worshipers took off fearing for their own safety.

It is claimed that the issue started as an argument between the two that turned heated before things went further south when they started throwing punches at each other.

Witnesses claimed that the worshiper accused the cleric of writing a letter to the police alleging that he (worshiper) was a radical Muslim with links to the Al-Shabaab.

Speaking to Nation Nandi Central OCPD Stephen Wambua confirmed that both the imam and the worshiper had recorded statements.

We have decided to carry out thorough investigations into the fight and will arraign them as soon as we complete investigations,” Wambua added.

Some worshipers accused the Imam of using unprintable words against the opponent which the noted were anti-Islam.

We are supposed to observe total humility before God and incidences of chaos must be condemned with the strongest terms possible,” noted Sheikh Dawood, a cleric at the mosque.

This comes barely a day after an armed foreigner stormed into a mosque in Taita Taveta accusing the worshipers of disturbing his peace with noise.

Taveta Sub County Police Commander Lawrence Marwa confirmed the incident after arresting the suspect.
