MPs Petition Uhuru After 8 Allies Are Dropped From Govt Jobs

A section of Western lawmakers has petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta after eight of their allies were reportedly dropped from their plum government jobs.

In a presser held at Parliament buildings on Thursday, MPs George Aladwa and Godfrey Osotsi together with their Senate counterparts Cleophas Malala and Naomi Shionga demanded action from the president in what they termed as an unfair tribal card.

In an emotional statement, the leaders claimed that some ambassadors from the western region were recalled by Foreign Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and are currently unassigned while those from other tribes were immediately given other jobs.

They further argued that the envoys were idling at the Nairobi offices which was against the norm of ambassadorial postings where they land other jobs within two years of recall.

"While ambassadors from other tribes are enjoying transfers and other privileges from one station to another, some getting contract extensions, Luhya ambassadors are being frustrated, humiliated and are being recalled.

"Some of our senior-most officers that were due for promotions as ambassadors have been left out and other people who served less than 10 years rewarded," The Star quoted Malala.

The envoys who are currently unassigned include Ken Vitisia, Antony Andanje, Simon Nabukwesi, Godfrey Okanga, Florence Weche, Shikanga Shitsama, Yvonne Khamati and Patrick Wamoto.

"Ambassador Shitsama was fired. He is unwell and his contribution to NHIF was terminated in spite of him being in the group of people living with disabilities," Malala continued.

The leaders further poked holes at the handshake claiming that it did not help them as some of their people are still in the cold.

The ministry is currently re-organizing envoys as nominees are expected to appear before parliament for vetting.
