Uhuru Kenyatta Sends Kalonzo Musyoka Abroad to Represent Him

President Uhuru Kenyatta has reportedly sent Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka to Congo to represent him at the Burial of the country’s former Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi.

The Wiper leader departed for Congo on Friday afternoon and is expected to represent the Kenyan government at the funeral, on Saturday, in Nsele, on the eastern outskirts of Kinshasa.

“Departing for the Democratic Republic of Congo where I will be representing President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kenya Government at the burial of the Country's former Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi,” Kalonzo stated on social media.

Before he flew out, the former Vice President held consultations with African Union High Representative for Infrastructural Development Raila Odinga who was arriving from a two-day infrastructural development conference in Ethiopia.

The Late Etienne is the father to the current President of Congo Felix Tshisekedi.

He died in Belgium in February 2017, aged 84, but his body stayed in Brussels because of a row with former President Joseph Kabila.

The deadlock ended when his son, Félix, became president in January 2019.

The plane carrying his remains touched down at the Kinshasa airport on Thursday evening where several thousands had gathered.

A delegation led by his son, President Felix Tshisekedi was also present at the airport.

For his supporters, the return of his body represents a victory over the former government.
