7 Killed in Horrific Road Accident Along Kilifi-Lamu Road

Seven people died on Friday night after a matatu they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck at Gede along the Malindi-Kilifi Road.

Malindi police base commander George Naibei stated that the matatu had been heading to Mombasa from Malindi when it collided with the lorry belonging to Malindi Salt Works Limited.

Of the seven casualties, six died on the spot while the seventh was pronounced dead on arrival at Malindi sub-county hospital.

The injured were rushed to Malindi Sub-County Hospital in critical condition," Naibei explained, adding the bodies were taken to the mortuary there.

Rodgers Wesonga who witnessed the accident narrated that the driver of the lorry lost control while heading to Malindi and rammed into the oncoming matatu.

Police had a rough time controlling the crowd,” added Wesonga, who had been travelling from Gede.

This comes a few days after another accident left three dead along the Murang’a- Kenol road after a matatu they were travelling in collided with a bus belonging to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Reports indicated that the three were travelling in a matatu belonging to Namu Sacco, when it hit the bus.

Several other passengers in the matatu were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

Murang’a County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua confirmed the incident revealing that Mbugwa Sub-Location Assistant Chief Michael Nduati was among the casualties.
