Grisly Road Crash Leaves 8 Dead

The number of people who have died in road accidents in the last 24 hrs has risen to 15 after 8 more die in an accident in Bungoma.

Police say the accident occurred after a Nissan matatu headed to Webuye town rammed onto a stationary lorry as the driver tried to overtake a speeding bus belonging to the Modern Coast bus company.

The accident occurred at Matulo along the Bungoma-Webuye highway.

Police are in pursuit of the driver of the Nissan matatu fled the scene after escaping unhurt.

The morning crash left six among them university students with serious injuries.

The injured were taken to Webuye Sub-county hospital as police launched investigations.

Standard Reported that among dead is unidentified Kibabi university student who was in the ill-fated matatu.

In another incident, seven people died on Friday night after a matatu they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck at Gede along the Malindi-Kilifi Road.

Malindi police base commander George Naibei stated that the matatu had been heading to Mombasa from Malindi when it collided with the lorry belonging to Malindi Salt Works Limited.

Of the seven casualties, six died on the spot while the seventh was pronounced dead on arrival at Malindi sub-county hospital.
