Britons Arrested Over Expired Visa Turn Terror Suspects

Police in Kitale have nabbed two British nationals David James Smith, 33, and Daniel Richard Bradlin and a Kenyan Paul Wekesa on suspicion of engaging in terrorism activities.

County Commissioner Sammy Ojwang stated the suspects were arrested at a hotel and taken to Kitale Police Station for interrogation.

Speaking at the Madaraka day celebrations at Namanjalala, Kwanza Constituency, Ojwang stated that the two Britons were arrested for having invalid travel documents and engaging in other suspicious activities including the filming of various public institutions.

According to the commissioner, the foreigners were said to have arrived in the North Rift town around two months ago.

They were also accused of engaging in suspicious activities around Kitale town raising the eyebrows of the security agencies and residents leading to their arrest.

Police also questioned the millions of shillings that the Kenyan had received from the British nationals.

According to The Star, it was established that the duo had been depositing Ksh800,000 weekly into the account of Wekesa, a Trans Nzoia resident. They also bought him a Ksh25 million house in Lavington, Nairobi.

Ojwang added that the trio had been on police radar for days before the arrest.

The County Commissioner further stated that later, the three were transferred to Nairobi for further interrogation by the Anti-terrorism police.

Smith and Bradlin were arrested at the Aturukan Hotel where they had stayed for two months with expired visas.
