Homa Bay police have launched a county-wide hunt for Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP), Ong'ondo Were, following an incident that left one of his aides dead, another in critical condition and a teacher battling for his life.
Reports by the Daily Nation stated that the MP was on the run after two of his aides, Jerry Ouma and Larmone Andiege, attacked a teacher, Kennedy Okong'o on Sunday.
The incident reportedly took place at a hotel located on the fringes of Oyugis town at around 5pm as per the official police reports.
Eyewitness reports indicate that chaos erupted following a fiery debate between the two aides and the Omiro Teachers Training Institute (TTI) member.
“They argued for a few minutes before the aides withdrew a knife and stabbed the teacher,” a witness divulged.
He went on to reveal that Okong'o had been a diehard supporter of the MP prior to the 2017 General Election but later withdrew his backing, a move which allegedly formed the basis of the heated argument.
Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Daniel Wachira, disclosed that it was the locals who heard the cries of the stabbed teacher who swooped in to save him and ended up beating up the two aides to within inches of their lives.
“Locals from the area who heard the commotion between the teacher and the MP’s allies came out to see what was happening. They started stoning the two men who had driven in with the MP,” Wachira affirmed.
The two were saved by police on patrol and rushed to Rachuonyo South Level Four Hospital in critical condition, where Ouma succumbed to his injuries.
Okong'o, on the other hand, was rushed to Kisii in order for his stab wound to be attended to while the MP, as well as his driver, were nowhere to be seen following the violent incident.
Wachira went on to urge the MP to make a statement at the nearest police station.
“We just need to ask the MP and his driver to explain what they know. Mr Were should record a statement at any police station near him,” he affirmed.
