Sonko Fires Back at Passaris' Supporters Over Madaraka Day Drama

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has hit back at critics following his remarks towards Nairobi Women Representative, Esther Passaris, during the Madaraka Day celebrations.

The governor, who was bombarded with tonnes of messages criticising his choice of words when addressing the MP, stated that he would not apologize.

Reports by Citizen Digital disclosed that the governor had remained defiant and called for Passaris to make the first move and apologize.

Akianza ku apoligise, hata mimi nItaapologise, loosely suggesting to, If she apologises first, then I will apologise as well,” Sonko divulged.

He allegedly went on to dismiss claims by various women on social media platforms that he was degrading them as a whole when he lashed out at passaris.

Anataka kunipiganisha na wamama na mimi nawapenda sana wamama. Mama mmoja asifanye diversionary tactics za kunikosanisha na wamama. Mimi niko na bibi na watoto wasichana. Loosely translating to she wants to foster enmity between me and women. This is unacceptable and I love all women including my wife and daughters.

His latest comments came right after the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) called for his immediate arrest over what they termed as hate speech.

FIDA executive director, Teresa Omondi, stated that the Governor's statement was a blatant insult towards women.

She also disclosed that Sonko had contravened Chapter Six of the constitution which guarded Kenyans against being subjected to hate speech.

The Governor had on Saturday forced Passaris to walk away midway through the Nairobi Madaraka day celebrations that were held at Pumwani after he lashed out at her.
