Uhuru's Achievement That Got Him Boasting to Women in Canada

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Tuesday, got a chance to boast about his achievements during the 2019 Women Deliver Conference that is ongoing in Vancouver, Canada.

While representing Africa at the conference, Uhuru stated that his government has made quite some history regarding advancing the agenda of women

He revealed that during his first term in office, he made history by appointing six women in key cabinet positions, and thus empowering them to impact the Kenyan society.

He further divulged that two of the appointees went on to become governors during his second term in office.

“At the executive, we have appointed women in key Cabinet positions of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Public Service and Health,” he stated.

While at the event where he was invited by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Uhuru explained that his fight for the uplifting of the girl child and women issues would not simmer any time soon.

He acknowledged the need for the society to create an enabling environment for women to exercise authority and enable them to exploit their skills and talents in providing services to the communities they live in.

“We need to make society understand that women are as capable as men. We have to create an enabling environment and the opportunity for them to serve.

“My government is keen on the involvement of women in leadership roles. We have not accomplished the implementation of the two-thirds gender rule in Parliament; we will not relent we will keep pushing,” he continued.

The Women Deliver Conference, a three-day event, will explore how power can drive or hinder progress and change for a more gender equal world.
