Man Who Made DP Ruto's 1st Shoe Makes 2 Passionate Requests

The entire nation was moved by Deputy President William Ruto's narration of his humble beginnings especially when he revealed that he wore his first shoe in 1981 when joining high school.

During last week National Prayer Breakfast, DP Ruto went on to give the name of the man who sold him his first leather foot ware as a Mr Onyango.

True to his words, the cobbler is still operating his shoemaking business on a verandah outside Kosyin Enterprise along Ronald Ngala street in Eldoret town.

79-year-old, Albert Onyango, the shoemaker, was tracked by KTN on Wednesday and shared his story.

The aged man still remembers the incident that took place 38 years ago at the same spot and could even remember the name of Ruto's father as Mzee Cheruiyot.

He says that he has never met the DP since that day and never thought that his name would ever be remembered by such a high profile leader in the nation.

Mr Onyango stated that at the time of selling the shoe to Ruto, he treated them (Ruto and his father) just like any other customer but remembers how excited the young man was about having the new shoe.

He revealed two things that he would want the nation's second in command to do for him that would make him "a very happy and satisfied man".

First, mzee Onyango wants to meet with the DP face to face and talk with him as they did almost four decades ago. He added that he would use this opportunity to thank Ruto for remembering him after all these years.

Secondly, he would want the deputy president to help him expand his shoemaking business to higher heights and make it a very successful industry.
